About Lice

The Canadian Paediatric Society reports that head lice are common, particularly among school-age children in Canada and elsewhere. Lice live about 40-50 days and go through three stages in their life cycle. A close and careful examination is required to detect them and a hands-on approach is recommended for successful eradication.

Human body lice (Pediculus humanus) have been implicated in the spread of diseases, including typhus and trench fever, whereas head lice (Pediculus capitis) do NOT carry disease or pose any serious health threat.
